Apple Cider Pressing

10/7/2014

It is that time of year again.  The harvest is here.  Potatoes, garlic, dilly beans, lettuce, and apple cider!  Last year I missed out on the cider pressing, but this year I was right in the stick of it.  Sticky that is.  This past weekend Lyrik and I went up to see my Father and Mother-in-law on their humble farm.  Montana Turtle set up at the local farmer's market and tapped away at a new hunting knife, putting just a little scroll work on it.

That evening after the market,  Jessica and Moss (her son) showed up.  We were all excited for the following day when her Aunt Bonnie and her husband were showing up with several boxes of apples from their farm up north.  The plan was a Family Cider Press!

Now, I have never pressed cider.  Running around the farm and setting up for it was an experience in itself.  The tools used were all hand made, and the skills needed are possessed by anyone, just a smidgen of willingness.

And press apples we did!  So many apples!  The smell of fresh cider was everywhere as I sneaked in with my coffee cup and caught a few yummy drops between pressings.

As all this is transpiring, I cannot help but let my thoughts spin towards a day when Lyrik mentions "do you remember when?"  Part of being present on this Earth is to help provide moments for my son, and for my family now, to build good memories.  How blessed I feel to see my family working together in such a beautiful place.  How blessed I am to be a part of such an occasion!

The Bison has been a symbol of strength for thousands of years. In my own life, I share the road system with them here in Yellowstone Country. I am reminded of there ever enduring ways as Man seems to quickly drift by them through this time era. I can see them never showing a need to move faster than they do, but to continue upon their path and be steadfast through their own time.

This buckle is a tribute to that idea of the state of being steadfast; to hold true to a world outside of the hustle and bustle of modern day man. Thus this buckle's name: Steadfast.

      Materials: Sterling Silver so far.

Old Timey Radio to Pass the Time

As I work, so many hours per day, I go through different phases of listening entertainment.  Not all songs, I find myself listening to different podcast from time to time.  One of my favorites is the radio shows from the past.  Gunsmoke would be my favorite radio show.  A gentleman by the name of Dennis Humphrey has put together an extensive collection of not only Old Time Radio but TV shows too, including cartoons.  With out his knowledge, he has been a part of my creations over the last year and more.  His hard work putting together his collections has given me hours of my favorite, the best western radio shows of the past. I have had the privilege in the past year to get to know Marshall Matt Dillon, Kitty, Chester, and Doc.  Really the fastest gun in the west was Dillon. There is something about a good radio show, but as we all know, "Video Killed the Radio Star."  Thank you Dennis for all of your work putting these collections together!   As a thank you to Dennis, I am attaching a link to one of the Gunsmoke shows, "Billy The Kid."  If you enjoy the times past radio shows too, and you would like to know more, you can go to Dennis' website where he sales many of his collections for all of us to enjoy! http://oldtimeradiodvd.com/

People often ask where I receive my artistic ideas from. I cannot answer for anyone else except myself, but I believe all I am doing is moving my hands, Creator seems to fill in the blanks. As for inspiration, all I must do is open my door and walk outside. There is more than ample inspiration here in the mountains.

I love working custom pieces. They always give me a chance to step outside of my ideas and imagination, and see things a bit different. Ann's Heirloom Ring. Each piece has a great story attached to them. This ring has two great stories.

After a long wait, I have finally received my Federal Firearms License. This license will enable me to take on firearm projects to engrave. Up to now, I have only been able to engrave what ever firearm I owned. This is exciting for me as an young entrepreneur; to expand my knowledge and push forward with a dream. If you have any questions, please give me a call, or email, or text, or Facebook, or, well you get the idea.

That time of the year again. We have had our first snow and the leaves are telling of a winter around the corner. Time to get the wood in, cut and stacked. Warm nights and hot chocolate by the wood stove are soon at hand.

A Montana Wedding

Living in Montana has brought me many years of memorable moments.  Including the day I asked Jessica to be my wife.  Jessica and I chose our wedding backdrop at the foothills of the southern Madison Range in south central Montana. Just a year earlier she and I were on my birthday hike in the Hilgard Mountains of the southern Madison Range.  At 9600 feet, with a vista of 11,000 foot mountains and high alpine lakes,  I knelt to my knees and asked her to be my wife.  She undoubtedly answered yes with tears of joy in her eyes; and after fumbling through tear blurred vision of excitement and joy, I was able to get her engagement band on the right finger.

What a blessing to live in such a beautiful place, and to be married to such a beautiful woman.  Our wedding was themed close to a late 1800s feel and a real time Montana spirit.  The sun set and the festivities began with plenty of homemade pie after pie and the best bluegrass band found in Bozeman!

Jessica and I have not only married our lives together, but we have brought together our two sons, Moss and Lyrik.  I am honored to have such a family.

Wayne Krzycki came out to hang out with our wayward crew, and he brought Willy and Waylon to add to the amazing scenery.  The three of them brought in my beautiful bride and her father right up to the aisle.  What a treat to have them chauffeuring friends and family around.
